Book One of the Neapolitan Ice Cream Sisters Series
Chivalry & Chocolate
A cozy fantasy novel about a knight who trades her sword for a chocolate shop, befriends a dramatic dragon, and discovers that the bravest thing she can do is be loved without her armor.
About the Book
Dassia Temperton has a secret, well, not a secret so much as a bold, ongoing misunderstanding that she refuses to correct in the kingdom. For years, she’s been a woman disguised as a knight… because honestly, have you seen how they get treated? Hot meals. Personal space. Significantly fewer marriage proposals from balding merchants. Dassia has been living in borrowed armor and even more borrowed confidence, dodging questions and keeping her feelings locked up tighter than a royal vault.
But when her captain sends her on a quest to slay a dragon, Dassia meets Etchling: a chocolate-obsessed dragon with a flair for the dramatic and zero interest in being slain. What starts as survival becomes something unexpected: a friendship, a business partnership, and a cozy chocolate shop in a village where nobody asks too many questions. Etchling has demands (snacks), opinions (many), and a talent for poking directly at Dassia’s emotional armor. Add a charming bookshop mage who has the nerve to see right through her, and Dassia’s defenses begin to melt… But some meltdowns are how hearts grow softer, especially when chocolate is involved…
Meet the Characters
Dassia Temperton
The Retired Knight
A battle-weary knight who traded her sword for a cocoa whisk. Dassia is fierce, tender, and deeply terrified of letting people in. She makes the best chocolate truffles in Cozyhood Commons — and possibly the worst small talk.
Etchling
The Dramatic Dragon
An eccentric dragon with a flair for theatrics, darling. Etchling adopted Dassia (not the other way around), and her loyalty is as fierce as her love of sweets.
Quinn Fablewick
The Bookshop Mage
Cozyhood Common’s awkward (but endearing) bookshop mage who carries secrets as carefully as his carries his first-edition tomes, and his quiet kindness might just hide a past as complicated as Dassia’s own.
Read an Excerpt
Dassia Temperton had a secret, well, not a secret so much as an enthusiastic reinterpretation of facts. Facts that, under scrutiny (and a thorough background check), might be considered “fraudulent to the kingdom.” If anyone found out Dassia’s secret, she would be a dead man. Well, to be more precise, she’d be a dead woman disguised as a man, playing the part with counterfeit stubble and borrowed boldness.
Dassia’s secret was approximately forty-five pounds of metal cinched to within an inch of her ability to breathe. It wasn’t Dassia’s fault, really, if people insisted on seeing a beard on her face where there was only strategically positioned contouring and shadow. It wasn’t her fault that people wholeheartedly accepted the forged birth certificate she had presented them without so much as holding it up to a candle. Honestly, who was she to shatter their comfortable delusions that she was a man worthy of knighthood? After all, correcting people was exhausting, and she had a strict personal policy against unnecessary exertion.
For years now, she’d been a knight in the Queen’s army under the title Sir Dassian “the Bold.” Though “the Bold” was a generous interpretation of “One Who Nodded Enthusiastically At Orders Then Found Creative Excuses To Avoid Them.” Her greatest act of courage probably involved once telling Captain Corbin Montoyo his new mustache looked “quite distinguished” rather than “like a deceased squirrel seeking refuge on his upper lip.”

What Readers Are Saying
“Like curling up with a mug of the finest hot chocolate while a dragon makes delicious chocolates by your side. I didn’t want it to end.”
“The found family elements hit me right in the heart. Dassia, Etchling, and the bookshop mage are characters I will carry with me for a long time.”
“If Legends & Lattes and The House in the Cerulean Sea had a baby, and that baby was raised in a chocolate shop, this would be that book.”
